2" HIGH PRESSURE ACCESS SYSTEMS

Description
2" High Pressure Access Systems are designed to allow safe insertion and removal of sensors and ancillary devices from systems under pressures up to 6000 psi, and temperatures ranging from -50°F to 450°F. All Cortest access equipment is designed and manufactured under ISO 9000 certification procedures and in accordance with appropriate service specifications (e.g. NACE-MR-01-75).

Applications
The primary users of High Pressure Access System equipment are the Oil/Gas production and transmissions industries. However, these systems are equally applicable to any user that has the need to remove or insert sensors at high pressures, without process interruption.

SYSTEM DESIGNS
Cortest offers two types of 2" High Pressure Access Systems: the HP, or generic system is compatible and interchangeable with the products of other manufacturers; and an advance design, the MH system that incorporates the following features to enhance safety and ease of operation.
  • Rugged Acme threaded plugs for easy makeup into an access fitting without galling.
  • A metal-to-metal primary seal providing improved fire safety compared to polymeric seals in generic systems.
  • A Quick-Stab Collet(tm) to simplify attachment to the Retrieval Tool.
  • Solid plug assembly that automatically aligns coupons or injector probes into the flow stream.
  • Non-telescoping retrieval tool for increased operational safety.

SYSTEM COMPONENTS

Access Fitting
This is a specially designed nipple that is welded or flanged to the pipeline or vessel. Fittings are available with threaded side tees to accommodate injection/sampling systems and sand probes, or without a side tee for other sensors (e.g. PAIR(tm) probes, E/R(tm) probes and weight loss coupons). The standard material of construction for fittings is carbon steel, although many other alloys (e.g. Incolloy 825, Hastelloy C-276, AISI 318 Duplex stainless steel) are available for special applications.

Carrier Plugs
This is a threaded plug that carries the sensor, or other ancillary device, and threads into the access fitting. Hollow and solid plug versions are used depending on the sensor type. Standard plugs are of AISI 316L stainless steel, although other materials are available where special corrosion or galling resistance is required.

Retrieval Tools/Service Valves
The retrieval tool and service valve is designed for temporary attachment to the access fitting while retrieval operations are in progress. They are designed to be used with both the MH and HP systems.

The Cortest retrieval tool is non-telescoping, making it less cumbersome and safer to use than the pressure-balance designs available from other manufacturers. When used in conjunction with the service valve, which is rated, fire safe to API 6FA, a wide variety of devices may be installed or removed from the process system at pressures up to 6000 psi.

Injection/Sampling Systems
Cortest injection/sampling systems can be installed in a 2" high pressure access fitting to allow the injection of corrosion inhibitors and various other chemical modifiers (e.g. demulsifiers, antifoulants, pour-point depressants). Such devices may also be employed to periodically sample process fluid for off-line test purposes (e.g. examination for sulfate reducing bacteria). A wide range of injection nozzles, quills and sample tubes are available for these purposes.

COUPON HOLDERS
Weight loss coupons, the longest established means of measuring corrosion, can be installed through a 2" high pressure access fitting using an appropriately designed MH or HP coupon holder. Coupon holders are available in a variety of designs such as:
  • Strip coupon holders
  • Disc coupon holders
  • Multiple disc coupon holders
  • Ladder strip coupon holders

Together with coupon holders, Cortest offers a complete range of coupon geometries and alloys.

LOW PRESSURE ACCESS
For systems up to 1500 psi, Cortest offers a retractor tool which can be used with any retractable probe. This forms a convenient system for insertion and removal of sensors in moderate pressure systems.
